Morgan had been sick for quite a while, and I couldn't remember the last time I had seen her smile. Then one afternoon she stepped off of the bus grinning. It was a beautiful afternoon. We went for a walk, played some games, and just laughed together. It's a day I'll keep in my heart forever.

Morgan Smiled Today

I’d walk a tightrope to China, balancing a chair on my chin

I’d do anything to find her and get a glimpse of that grin

Her hearts been hidden such a long time

And getting over that hill has been a hard climb

Morgan smiled today And we both laughed and played

And I forgot about the price of gas

And all the problems in my past

And tomorrow’s troubles melted away

Sometimes life can hand us hard things that we don’t understand

Just when we try to rise back up, it knocks us down again

She’s had more than her share of sad days

Daniel and I were discussing how tough our dad's used to be, when we were coming up.  then we had kids and something happened to them. ;-)

Somebody’s Grandpa

 Six feet tall and two hundred pounds

Daddy wasn’t the kind to ever back down

When he drew a line

Nobody dared to cross it

He believed in black and white

Good and bad and wrong and right

And when I thought I needed teaching a lesson

He taught it

Playing cars and trucks and building castles in the sand

Ever letting me eat ice cream before dinner

Watching cartoons instead of the news

Over the years we have had several battles with insurance companies over meeting our daughter's medical needs.  I've spent more time on the phone with them than she's ever spent in therapy. 

When you're a songwriter and you don't know what else to do, you write a song.  This was written with my good friend Les Kerr.  He's one of the best Blue's men out there, and for this one, I needed to sing the Blues.  Thanks Les

The Medical Insurance Blues

I’m covered in papers clear up to my ears

Made dozens of phone calls but nothing is clear

Pass me an aspirin.  Throw me a line

I’m deep in dept and they have left me behind

I’ve got the medical insurance blues

They claim to help you but it just ain’t true

I’m sifting through the difference of the benefit and lack

When they say they’ve got you covered boy

You better watch your back

Pressed every selection, they left me in hold

I’m not just a number.  I’m not just a code

Is there one human who can lend me an ear?
