Years ago a good friend of mine had breast cancer, and little while later my mom was diagnosed also.  Watching both of these women, who I love and respect so much go through this made me ask some questions.  Seeing how they handled it made me stronger.  I do believe no matter how things look, god is always in charge.

My dad (Winston Burkett) visited a friend who had a grandson with Down Syndrome and he referred to him a "Blue Rose".  When my dad asked why, he said because he was like a rare flower that needed special care.  Later my dad wrote a fictional novel about a the relationship between a young girl with autism and her grandfather, set back in the 1940's.  Of course he pulled a lot from his personal experience with his grandaughter, Morgan. 

When I read it, I was very touched and asked if we could write a song from the book idea.  He agreed, and that's how "Blue Rose" was born.
