March Newsletter

Hello,

I hope this finds you well.  What crazy weather we've been having.  We are happy to leave the snow behind and feel March bringing in a little Spring warmth.  Here's the latest:

News:

"So that They'll Believe" was released to radio in February.  Thanks to all our radio friends for getting the music out there.  We appreciate you!

This month I have the priviledge of being a part of a benefit for     SENSE Theatre, A Stage of Hope For Children With Autism.  I am excited about their summer theatre camp.  Being the mom of a teenage daughter on the autism spectrum, I can tell you that drama comes naturally.  ;-) I think this camp is a great opportunity for our kids.  See the schedule below for details.

Thanks:

Webster's dictionary defines community as a group of interacting people living in a common location that is organized around common values.  It is derived from the Latin communitis (cum,"with, together" + munus,"gift").

I sat on the bleachers last weekend, watching The Raptors (our special needs sports team) play basketball. Dad's chased them up and down the court.  Mom's, grandparents, and friends cheered  them on.  Afterwards it was time for a pizza party and awards.  As I looked around the room at all the familiar faces I've watched grow up and grow old together, I was reminded of how blessed our family has been with the gift of this community.  Thank you Hendersonville!

In this ASMT workshop, Ms. Marylee Perkins will highlight the iPad, iPhone, and Dynavox technology systems. Mrs. Tammy Vice will speak to how her daughter, Morgan, uses her iPad and how it compares to her previous Dynavox device.

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) includes all methods (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, and ideas. People with severe speech or language delays rely on AAC to communicate with the people around them. Electronic devices and their applications (a form of AAC) help people to express themselves, increasing social interaction, school performance, and feelings of self-worth.
